red. white. & cute.

Happy Holiday weekend!!

Nothing excites me more than a long weekend…well, almost nothing. What really gets me going is a themed outfit! I was always that girl in high school that dressed the part. If it was Halloween, I was dressed up. Christmas, just call me Mrs. Claus. Easter, I sure as hell donned a pair of pink and white fur bunny ears every freaking year! So it’s no surprise that I am 31 and I still do the same.

Most of you have probably RSVP’d to some form of a BBQ or cookout (are they the same?!) this weekend. What’s not a better reason to cheers, over indulge and make poor choices in honor of our dear country in your favorite weekend digs. This edition of Style My Mind is to give you a few ideas of comfortable looks for your holiday fiestas (have to embrace all cultures). Depending on where you live, you may or may not be able to wear some of these. For instance, the first outfit I am totally obsessed with. When you live in Florida in July, you cannot wear any sort of a sleeve to anything before the hour of 9pm so I, unfortunately will not be able to wear outfit 1 this weekend.

Denim is HUGE right now i.e. denim shirts, dressed, styled denim, distressed denim etc. So anything you can put together with some of that in there puts you 10 stars ahead on your fashionista chart. For this look I did start with the denim shirt button-up and white tee. You all know about my white tee fetish so that’s an extra star right there. I love the khaki shorts because they are classy. I am totally a denim cutoff girl but I know some of my friends- especially my teacher friend, Chrissy, who is all over this look 110%. A hat is always an easy accessory to style up your outfit so throw on a beachy fedora and you’re golden. I added in white floral flip flops to make the white tee standout and some gold jewelry. A long necklace is required with some midi-rings and probably some gold diamond studs. Remember not to do gaudy earrings with a chunky necklace, it’s too much.

Style 2, someone “once upon my mistakes” in life called it “Where’s Waldo”; I can see how someone who lacks such fashion sense would refer to it in that way. It’s fun and flirty and for the record, the top is coral not red. It is a crop top, this is the only crop top I feel is acceptable for someone over the age of 30. It’s not too “croppy” just enough. It’s super comfortable. I did not buy this for the 4th of July oddly enough but it is highly appropriate. I didn’t really do it up with jewelry just because I don’t know that I would. The necklace is pewter, you can do silver or gold with it though. I would just wear this necklace, some plain rings and maybe some Alex & Ani’s with simple silver studs and white flip flops. It’s very flexible and has a lot of give for your Javier babies at the end of the night. (Please refer to below posts)

Style 3 is actually what I will be wearing on Saturday to my family BBQ. I also made the really cool cherry bomb “shots” that have been circulating on FaceBook (told you I love a theme!). I will let you know how they came out. Anyway, like I said, I am more of a “denim cut off” type girl. Plus I bought this sweet ass hat in NoLa (the only good thing that ever came out of that shit hole) and I want to wear it as much as I can! It’s super country meets Jersey girl. This is a really easy look, comfortable and doesn’t look like you put much effort into it which I love. I also stated, I live in Florida and it’s really, really hot; like hotter than hell’s kitchen here right now so shorts and a tank are the way to go. Nothing extremely fancy to make this outfit cute; just remember to wear a nice clean white tank…. WHITE… not off white, not cream, not dingy dryer white, white! I would honestly just buy a new white tee and tank probably every month. I do actually do that. I am going to wear a simple silver necklace with my Alex & Ani’s and diamond studs. Easy, breezy! And if it does get “chilly” at night, which it would, throw on my blue terry Juicy Couture hoodie.

Tank: Apt 9
Shorts: Victoria’s Secret PINK
Hat: Some random side shop in New Orleans ran by probably someone hobo looking and smells like a bag of old fish and urine
