What to Wear: Derby Day Duds

Kentucky Derby May 6, 2017

Happy Friday fashionistas! Are you ready for the weekend? It’s almost Derby weekend! Have you gotten your Derby duds?  I have always wanted to go to the Kentucky Derby, but that will have to go on next year’s Girlboss list since I blinked and spring was just about over! However, we do have a not-as-cool but will have-to-do race track here in Tampa {Tampa Bay Downs} that hosts the derby each year! When my friend approached me with it, I took it as a full-on opportunity to get not only the Derby weekend feel, but also the opportunity for a fantastic blog on what to wear to the Derby or a Derby themed party!

I have three looks that are all very different but all work perfectly for this event!

When I laid my eyes on this hat I had to have it and actually I saw it before I even knew about derby weekend. I originally saw this hat at DSW for $27. When I told my friend Tracy about it she said she saw one at Marshall’s. Low & behold, there it was, ONE LEFT for $12.99. It’s a derby style beach hat, white, with black sequence spelling out the words, “Out of Office.” I sure as heck am OUT OF OFFICE this weekend! I snagged it just in time. The dress I am pairing it with is JLo for Kohls and chunky demi-heel by Restricted from DSW. The dress is a black eyelet style, A-line dress that has just enough cleavage to look sexy and just enough cover-up to look classy, paired with a petticoat for drama this will be the perfect Derby day look!

Tracy grabbed this pink sheer A-line dress from Marshall’s as well. Her look is a bit more girly,  styling it with a vintage hat which was her friend’s grandmothers from back-in-the-day. I love that she did this, something new & something old & something borrowed all in one. Not that she is getting married, but I still love it.

For Selena, I styled her up in what she would feel comfortable in! She was looking for more of a down-to-earth look 86ing the dress! So i started with a pair of linen pants from Kohls for her, which are light weight fabric but also look classy as hell! I took my blue and white striped button-down from Romwe Fashion which I will have her tuck into the front of the pants and leave out in the back. I brought it all together with one of my favorite hats, a fedora from Calvin Klein that just screams hand me a mint julep and a voting ballot {do you get a ballot?!}! And tied it all together with extra comfy Coach signature flip flops!

While all of these looks are different, like I said none are wrong and the best part about this day is you can go as over-the-top as you like with over-sized hats the size of Texas, bags and accessories! All bets are in, my ladies will look fab!!!

Xo Cheers, Jenn
